As soon as the temperatures soar, partygoers seek a place where the champagne flows and the music throbs. Many revelers check out the world’s best pool parties, which combine cutting-edge music, ice-cold drinks and delicious snacks in an open-air venue. Here are four of the chillest on the planet.
1. JIMMY Pool Party
Where? The James, New York City, New York
Every summer, a swanky crowd flocks to JIMMY at The James New York — one of Gotham’s trendiest bars — to take a plunge in the rooftop pool located on the 18th floor. Up here, guests experience breathtaking panoramas of Lower Manhattan’s soaring skyscrapers — One World Trade Center, the Woolworth Building, Barclay Tower, etc. — and must-see cultural landmarks. On a clear day, the views extend as far as the Hudson River.
Guests can gulp a cocktail from a menu that includes “Black Walnut Manhattan,” a whiskey-walnut concoction, and “Grapes of Wrath,” a mixture of vodka, lemon, and rosemary. There’s plenty of music, too, with a revolving roster of DJs who spin some of the smoothest grooves in the city.
Pool parties at JIMMY happen every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, from late May through the summer. (Reservations are recommended)
2. Puro Beach
Where? The Hilton Diagonal Mar Barcelona Hotel, Barcelona, Spain
Purobeach has it all: a city center location, a spacious wooden deck, and palm tree-shaded chaises longues. Several DJs provide the musical soundtrack to the parties that happen here, creating a fusion of soft ambient sounds. Temperatures get hot — really hot — during the summer, with average July highs hovering in the 90s. However, guests can cool down with a cold beer or a Mojito strawberry cocktail.
This swimming pool overlooks Barcelona’s sprawling skyline, which encompasses centuries-old relics and modern high rises. Guests throng here at dusk when the city’s sunset transforms the urban landscape. Purobeach is located just 3.4 miles (5.5 km) from Barcelona Cathedral — one of the most famous icons in “Ciutat Comtal.”
This pool party runs once or twice a week from June through September.
3. Lazy Sunday BBQ
Where? The Standard Spa Miami, Miami, Florida
The Standard Spa Miami — a super-stylish boutique hotel in “The Magic City” — has art deco furniture and Atlantic Ocean views, making it a prime destination for A-listers. However, its infinity pool is the biggest star attraction here. Surrounded by a falling water shower, hot tub and waterfall, the pool has a state-of-the-art underwater sound system.
Lazy Sunday BBQ takes place every year in December. There are drinks offers — the free-flowing frozen rosé, or “frosé,” is always a popular draw — food and tarot card reading, plus lots of dancing in and around the infinity pool.
4. Sunday Pool Party
Where? The Clubhouse, Buenos Aires, Argentina
This pool party lures a fun-loving international crowd that wants to eat, sleep, swim, repeat. Located in a renovated four-story townhouse in Palermo — a buzzing Buenos Aires neighborhood with towering Tipa trees and boho boutiques — The Clubhouse boasts uber-contemporary lounges, a traditional Argentinian barbecue, and fluorescent cocktails. There are two bars and a garden, too. It’s strictly members-only.
The club’s pool might not be the world’s widest or longest or deepest but it’s certainly one of the most striking, with steep, jagged mountains on all sides and intimate seating areas where guests go to relax. Travelers pool their resources and come here to drink, dance and mingle in the scorching sun. The pool party at The Clubhouse has become something of a local tradition and is held every Sunday afternoon during the summer months.
The four events on this list are thousands of miles apart but they all have one thing in common: a laid-back, relaxing atmosphere. These pool parties might not be as crowded or well-known as those in Las Vegas or Ibiza, Spain, but they’re just as exciting — blending food, cocktails and the hottest DJs.
